As we prepare for the new academic year, here are 10 key Digital Learning updates to help you get your teaching ready for 2026/27.
Discover new and updated services, changes to Moodle and opportunities to explore and help shape digital learning at LCC.
1. Welcome Videos
We had a great response last academic year to the invitation to Course Leaders Last year, the Digital Learning Team worked with Course Leaders to produce around 10 short welcome videos.
These videos help students put names to faces and create a warm, engaging and inclusive learning environment from the outset. If you’re considering recording one this year, you can explore examples using several different formats:
- Straight to camera: BA (Hons) Design Management first-year welcome video

- PowerPoint cameo recording: BA (Hons) Advertising
The Digital Learning Team can support you with recording, editing, and uploading your video to Moodle.

2. Explore Digital Learning Services
ThThe Digital Learning Team is introducing a more service-led model of support for LCC staff this year
Services available at the start of 2026/27 include:
- Welcome videos
- E-module development, subject to capacity
- Learning Glass videos
- Accessibility checks for documents
- Moodle health checks
- Glossary building

3. A New Moodle Dashboard
From 10 September 2026, Moodle will have a redesigned dashboard to make it easier to navigate.
The new layout has been developed by UAL’s User Experience team in response to student feedback. The first time you log in following the update, you’ll be offered an introductory tour of the new dashboard.

4. Updated Moodle course sites
Over the summer, the Digital Learning Team has restructured Moodle course sites to provide students with a more consistent experience.
Standardising key sections will also make it easier for colleagues across the College to update materials and for the Digital Learning Team to check links and audit content.
The Moodle Course Layout Guide includes image templates, accessibility advice and practical tips for structuring your site.
5. Updated Moodle Unit Sites
WThe Digital Learning Team has also standardised the opening section of Moodle unit sites, including the areas covering: Course information, assessment, resources and tutorials.

6. Find LCC Digital Learning guidance in one place
LCC’s Digital Learning guides, resources and MyBlog content have been brought together in one SharePoint space, making it easier to find the information you need.

7. Join the Digital Pioneers community
The Digital Pioneers community is expanding this year, creating more opportunities for colleagues to connect, exchange ideas and help shape the future of digital learning at LCC.
The team would like to hear from staff who are curious about digital learning and willing to explore new approaches. You might be testing a new tool, trying a different teaching method or finding an innovative way to support students.
As part of the network, you’ll have opportunities to:
- Contribute case studies
- Share effective practice with colleagues
- Help influence the development of new Digital Learning services and support
- Join the LCC Digital Pioneers community and help shape what comes next.

8 . Collaborate Phase Out
Class for Web, also known as Class Collaborate, is being phased out. Microsoft Teams will eventually become UAL’s primary virtual classroom platform and will be integrated with Moodle.
This change will bring virtual teaching into a platform already widely used by staff for online meetings, collaboration and communication. Further guidance will be shared as the transition progresses.
9. Help test Microsoft Teams in Moodle
During 2026/27, the Digital and Technology team will test the new Microsoft Teams and Moodle integration.

10. Digital Champions
Last year, LCC’s Digital Learning Champions explored subjects including AI, podcasting and students’ experiences of induction.
