Digital Learning Champions 25/26

Last academic year, the Digital Learning Champions delivered some amazing work with the LCC Digital Learning team. They each worked on a project with a member of the team. Here is a summary of their projects and the follow-up work.

Podcasts For Teaching and Learning

Maria Bacelar, a BA Film and TV student, worked on researching student interest in podcasts as a learning tool. This project was very successful at unearthing some good practice going on around the College, including staff who are already using podcasts with their students either as a teaching tool or as a form of assessment.

Maria then continued to develop examples of the different types of podcasts that tutors can engage their students with. A post on this is scheduled for November 2026. You can also attend a training session on the 5th November 2026.

Staff can also use Adobe Podcast | AI audio recording and editing, all on the web which is free to use with your UAL log-in. If you’d like a training session on this, contact the LCC Digital Learning Team. The Digital Space will be able to provide training for students.

Student Journey – Inductions in relation to digital learning

This project was with Farid Tan, who is an MA Alumnus from the Design School, and also an LCC Changemaker. His project was to explore induction for students through a Digital Learning lens. This was very much a “Shake The Tree” project and see what feedback comes from students through surveys and research interviews.

One of the suggestions from Farid’s report is to have a “Start Well” section on Moodle course sites with all the induction material and resources focusing on the first 6 weeks.

This is a project we are going to take forward to pull together some of the resources and work around induction already in place. The Digital Learning Team will be working with stakeholders ready for something in place for 27/28 start.

AI and Assessment

Mustafa Motiwala, also an MA Alumnus from the Design School, worked on the final project around AI and assessment. Through feedback from research with students, Mustafa investigated how students at LCC use and credit AI in their academic submissions.

One of Mustafa’s findings was that respondents expressed uncertainty about what an acceptable AI declaration actually looked like. They understood the principle of crediting but had never seen a complete, specific example they could follow. This was particularly pronounced for visual and production students, who found essay-based guidance less relevant to their work.

Using his UX Design experience, Mustafa Designed an interactive AI crediting checklist. The Digital Learning Team plans to pilot this tool to help refine and scale the concept for future use.
