Framing the Arts: Innovative Teaching with Learning Glass
It’s been a while coming, but the new Learning Glass Lab is now ready for booking. This innovative light glass will allow tutors to record engaging, short educational videos to include on Moodle sites.
Using a Learning Glass recording allows academics to face their students while writing, which boosts engagement and helps learners revisit key concepts. It’s especially effective for visual learners, students with ADHD, and those learning English, as it combines clear visuals with spoken explanations.
The Learning Glass works best with any diagrams or graphical models that you would normally explain in class on a whiteboard. Here are some examples
Exposure Triangle
Social Media – Integration-Theory-Model
3-Point Lighting
Studio set-up
Narrative Structure Diagrams
Graphic Design Workflow
Or even a summary or overview where you write key words down to reinforces understanding and visual anchors, such as this example for Documentary Ethics.
In May 2024 we ran a pilot of the Learning Glass in our office before moving it to our new room – DG03a. Have a look back at clips from the pilot.
How can I book the Learning Glass?
We recommend you book a 30-minute Induction Session with one of the Digital Learning team. Recording is done through an MS Teams meeting. We’ll go over how to set this up, so you are able to record independently.
A follow-up 15-minute recording content consultation is advised to go over the plan for your recording. This is so we can give you some tips on how to get the best out of your recording.
Finally, the recording session itself. We recommend you book an hour for this slot, so you have time to have a practice before recording.
