AI within UAL Supported Platforms.
AI capabilities are embedded in a number of UAL supported platforms and applications. Here is a guide to those AI tools, which includes:
- Co-pilot
- Miro
- Padlet
- Moodle
- Panopto
Copilot
Copilot is Microsoft’s AI assistant that functions in a similar manner to ChatGPT. It can be accessed via the Edge browser or anywhere that you see this symbol:

It can also be opened in other browsers by visiting copilot.cloud.microsoft. You’ll need to login using your university email to gain access to the Enterprise license provided by the university. Using Copilot within the enterprise license will make your data more secure.
Copilot can be a useful tool for summarising text, generating ideas and checking grammar.
For example, you could use Copilot to generate a quiz which could then be created within Moodle, or use it to generate a lesson plan. The following videos will show you an example of how this can be done:
- Generating AI quiz questions (Video)
- AI Innovations – Lesson Plans (Video)
Copilot will eventually be integrated with Microsoft Office where it could help you to enhance your productivity and creativity across apps like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams. For example, in Word, Copilot can help draft documents, summarise text, or rewrite content for clarity. In Excel, it can analyse data, generate formulas, or create visualisations based on your instructions. In PowerPoint, Copilot can design presentations and provide creative layouts in seconds. When integrated into Teams, Copilot assists in summarising meetings, drafting messages, and managing tasks.
Miro
There has been a lot of development of AI tools for Miro. You need to be on an Educational Enterprise account in order to access these functions. If you are new to Miro, then follow our guide and contact us about the Educational Enterprise account.
The main tool is AI Assist or Miro AI. There are also smart templates with built-in functions, such as coming up with suggestions. Some of the features of Miro AI include: summary of text, translation, changing the tone, writing for clarity, creating documents – such as meeting notes – and summary of sticky notes.

You can access the menu of functions by clicking on the star icon which appears on your tool bar when you select a frame. There is also AI Sidekick that can add suggestions and give feedback.
Padlet
Within Padlet, you have the option to create AI Recipes. These are like templates, but you can select the level, themes and ask different prompts depending on the type of recipes you select. You can find these AI Recipes on the Padlet dashboard or in the left-hand side menu.

Types of recipes include: creating timelines, reading lists, creating discussion boards and lesson plans. More recipes are being added, but you will need to be using a UAL Padlet account to get full access to these features. Here is an example of a reading list AI recipe for British Fashion. There is also a reading list assistant, which allows you to change and develop what has originally been generated.

Moodle
Currently, UAL is not on the right version of Moodle to access AI functions. We will be moving up to 4.5 in the summer of 2025, when this function will be explored by the Digital Learning Support Team. If activated, the functions will include: image and text generation, as well as summarising of text.
Panopto
There are a number of features that Panopto has been developing. These include: Elai – Generated Video Content and Access AI. Discussions are in progress with Panopto on what capabilities are currently available to UAL.
If you would like to book training for any of the UAL supported platforms, then please contact the Digital Learning team or book an appointment.
