Teaching with Wikipedia

Wikipedia has great potential to help develop our students’ digital and information literacies.

In July, Lucy Crompton-Reid, Chief Exec of WikimediaUK spoke at the LCC Academic Leaders’ Day explaining how our students might work with Wikimedia to contribute to the creation of a more equitable, unbiased and diverse knowledge ecosystem through the introduction of course-based activities.

Workshop for staff

We are currently planning a workshop for staff to explore the kinds of activities we could introduce into the classroom. See Wikimedia in Universities for some examples of existing projects, including Media courses at Middlesex University.

If you’re interested in getting involved please contact m.lingard@lcc.arts.ac.uk.

One of WikimediaUK’s projects that UAL might consider in the long-term is their residency project. Residents work in partnership with the insitution delivering a range of activities including designing and delivering training to enable staff and students to contribute their knowledge and expertise to Wikimedia projects such as Wikipedia. Read the Understanding the impact of our Wikimedians in Residence report (PDF) for further details.
